The gerentologists say, "There are four kinds of people in this world: Those who have caregivers; Those who are currently care givers; Those who eill be caregivers; Those who need caregivers". Under the circumstances, with the demographic explosion of our country's aging population, career on older adult services will experience tremendous growth in the coming years in the area of health care & human services in the period of LPG (Liberation, Privatization and globalization).
In the urban areas of country there will be scope for increase in the field of aging work in a variety of settings. These includes
a. Community, Human Service & Religious Organization.
b. Health care & Long term institution.
c. The State Goverment, Local Goverment agencies, including the N.G.O.
d. Retirement communities
e. Academic and other educational and research settings.
So there is a possibility of developing programmers, such, as, health promotion, senior theatre groups or intergenerational activities for older persons in different centers, community agencies or retirement communities and provision of direct care to ill or impaired older persons in hospitals, clinics, nursing, home etc. and also counseling older persons and their familise about issues of care giving etc.
Considering and Discussing about Gerontology we conclude that the state Universities should establish a Center for advanced Studies on Gerontology as it is a multidisciplinary fields. The Center will conduct the under graduate courses in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Gerontology and the Bachelor of science degree in Gerentology. This degree is especially appropriate for students who plan to pursue graduate or professional works in gerontology, or some other fields, or who plan to work with elder adults in careers.
If the policy is taken by the Govt. & the University, curriculum and the syllabus can be prepared by us. As in 1998 ,sociologist and demographer Alfred Sauvy predicted ,"the 21st century will be the century of aging mankind".
